What does it take to serve on the Board of Directors?

Are you a strategic thinker, an inspiring leader, or someone who thrives on building connections and driving progress in real estate? If so, it’s time to consider serving on the Suncoast Tampa Association of REALTORS® (STAR) Board of Directors.

Being a director on the STAR Board means helping shape the future of our real estate community. You’ll focus on the big-picture goals, tackle challenges that matter to our members, and help guide important decisions about policies and resources. It’s about using your time, ideas, and experience to make a real impact—both now and for the future of the association.

The Nominating Committee has the task of seeking a slate of candidates for 2026. There are 7 vacant Director positions.

Members who are interested in being interviewed for potential candidacy should complete the Consent to Serve Form. They must also complete the District 6 Leadership Institute this year or in a prior year, or attend the Association Business Planning class. Additional qualifications required by the bylaws to serve on the Board of Directors:

  • Be a member in good standing with dues paid by April 30, 2025.
  • Complete the Association Business Planning class or the District Leadership Institute
  • Complete and submit the Consent to Serve Form by July 9, 2025
  • Be interviewed by the Nominating Committee on either July 22 or 23, 2025

During the recent Nominating & Credentialing Committee deliberations, the  Committee focused on transparency in the selection process. Below are key highlights:

  • Geographic Representation:

The Committee focused on geographic diversity based on member distribution, as stated in the STAR Bylaws, using member home address census data:
• Hillsborough: 3–4
• Pinellas: 2–3
• Pasco: 1–2
This year’s slate includes 3 nominated candidates from Hillsborough, 3 nominated candidates from Pinellas, and 1 nominated candidate from Pasco.
However, during elections, popular vote prevails—geography will not override vote totals.

  • Brokerage Cap:

A maximum of 2 members from the same brokerage may serve on the Board (excluding the President and President-Elect). If more are elected, only the 2 members with the highest number of votes from that brokerage will serve. Others may remain eligible as alternates if a vacancy occurs.

We hope this provides clarity on the committee’s approach and ensures a fair and balanced slate.
